Early this morning, shortly after Coco arrived in our bedroom for her daily visit, she slapped my face. She has been doing this quite frequently lately. All of my attempts to curb this behavior thus far have been futile. So, on a whim, I tried something different. I didn’t say a word; I just turned away. A few minutes later, I went to take a shower.
It appeared to Coco that I had gone because I was angy. She told Daddy what she had done; she felt badly.
When I came back, Coco ran to me and said, “I’m sorry I hit you, Mommy.”
As Layr was explaining that we should “keep mum” about the real reason I left the room–in the parent-code way we’ve begun talking around our little pre-schooler–Coco piped up and said, “no, daddy. She’s Susan Bisser Andersen, not mum.”
