Today Coco told me a baby we know is “smackin!’”

I asked for clarification: lip smacking good?

No. Smackin’ actually means really, really cute. She went on to tell me that Harry, her cousin, who we’ll be meeting in two days, is gonna be super smackin’.

“Holy cheeses!”

Coco asked me to get the “mote control” tonight. I wasn’t sure that’s what she had said at first so I asked her to repeat it. Sure enough: “mote control.” Mignon!

Coco uses this expression constantly.

“May you please hold my backpack?”

“May you please get me a glass of milk?”

We corrected her this week, so like a lot of her other sweet expressions it will soon be a thing of the past.

Minky said something “funny” in the car the other day, the punch line being “poop.” I asked why poop is funny. She said she thought bathroom words were funny. “Oh,” I said, “what are some other bathroom words?” She thought a moment, then said, “pee”…and “excuse me, I’d like some privacy.” – Dad

When Coco first said this to me, I thought, “what poetry, what a wordsmith this kid is.”

Today, I put on an episode of Frances for Coco to watch. Halfway through the program, I hear Frances utter the same words….and she even added what Coco does, “and I don’t even like ice cream!”

“Muy-fecto!” This is said after Coco kisses her fingers. Lots of things have been “muy-fecto” in the last 24 hours.

Tonight I was feeling a bit dejected at dinner because Coco was being a bit uncooperative. She looked over at me and said, “Mommy, why are you looking like that? You’re breaking my heart.”

Later, at bedtime, I was lying down with her because she said she was lonely and needed someone to be in her room. I always fall for this and the moment I lie down, every time, Coco gets all rambunctious. Tonight she wanted to show me her Hello Kitty music box. It’s small and red and when you open the lid, music plays and Hello Kitty spins around. She reached over to her bedside table, opened it up and said, “Hello Kitty, you’re breaking my heart you’re so cute!”

We’ve been having family painting parties lately. We get out all our supplies and paint at the dining room table. It’s very fun.

I have a good collection of paint brushes that I keep in a big plastic container.
The other day, Coco took the container out and saw that I had put in a foam brush that I bought for her.

“Hey! This was supposed to be mine!” she said, laughing. “You’re crazy!” This was followed by, “speaking about painting, I’d like to paint now!”

What was funny about this was that “speaking about” is Coco’s new favorite non sequitur. It killed me when she said this because it sounds so adult and no one had been talking about painting.

Last night while eating strawberries, Coco leaned back in her chair and said, “ah, this is the life.”
